Woman arrested for forcing daughter into prostitution in Noakhali

A woman, who had filed two cases against four people for gang-raping her daughter, was arrested today after her daughter alleged that she had forced her into prostitution.

Police arrested the woman in Begumganj upazlia of Noakhali.

Begumganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Ruhul Amin filed the case against the woman, a local UP chairman and five others at the police station today after the victim gave a statement against them, reports our Noakhali correspondent.

The victim's mother on Thursday (February 25) filed two separate cases at Begumganj Police Station against four people for raping her daughter, a 17-year-old madrasa student.

After the case was filed, police conducted a drive and rescued the victim from a house in Savar's Nabinagar and arrested four persons.

The victim later gave a statement under Section 22 against her mother at the court of Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Nobonita Guha.

From 2017 till December 2020, her mother had forced her into prostitution, said the victim in her statement, according to police.

"Till now five persons have been arrested in connection with the rape and we are conducting drives to arrest the rest of the accused in the case," said Begumganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamruzzaman Sikder.

"A UP chairman was accused in the rape case. We can say more after investigating the matter," said Md Shah Emran, Noakhali additional superintendent of Police (Sadar circle).
