Woman allegedly murdered by niece after argument over trivial matter

A woman was killed after her niece allegedly hit her with a spice crusher and stabbed her indiscriminately in Dhaka's Gulshan area.

The deceased was identified as Nikita Akter (40) an inhabitant of Norda area under Gulshan Police Station.

Police detained the deceased's niece Jesmin Akter in connection with the murder.

Rezaul Karim, sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station, said Nikita and her husband used to live in the flat where Jesmin along with her two minor children came to visit them.

Jesmin had an altercation with Nikita over a trivial matter around 11:00am leading to the murder, Aminul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Gulshan Police Station, said.

"At one stage of the fight, Jesmin hit her aunty with a spice crusher and later stabbed her with a kitchen knife, leaving her dead on the spot" he said quoting Jesmin.

"The accused along with her two children and the victim were in the house when the incident took place," he said adding they are interrogating Jesmin for further details.

On information, police rushed to spot in the afternoon. After collecting evidence from the spot, police are preparing the body to send to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
