UNO stops child marriage in Jashore; groom fined Tk 20,000

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) MM Arafat Hossain stopped a child marriage last night in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore. A mobile court later fined the groom Tk 20,000, reports our local correspondent.

UNO Arafat Hossain said, they conducted a drive after a tip-off and stopped the marriage of a 13-year-old girl with a 21-year-old man in Hariyaghop village of Keshabpur upazila, reports our Benapole correspondent.

Later, a mobile court fined the groom Tk 20,000 for attempting to marry a minor, Arafat said, adding that a bond was signed by the bride's father on the condition that they will not marry her off until she's an adult.
