Police arrest TikToker for assaulting girl in Dhaka’s Shanir Akhra

Saddam Hossain alias Ridoy

Police yesterday arrested a youth on charge of assaulting and verbally abusing a girl on a footbridge in Dhaka's Shanir Akhra area on February 14.

The arrestee was identified as Saddam Hossain alias Ridoy. He is also known as "TikTok Ridoy", police said.

Police started investigation after a citizen sent a video of the girl being assaulted and verbally abused, which went viral on social media on February 16, to the media wing of police headquarters.

A team of Jatrabari police tracked his location and finally arrested him yesterday, four months after the incident, said Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.

During primary interrogation, Ridoy admitted that he used to draw young girls using various social media platforms, including TikTok, he said.

He used to harass and humiliate the girls and extort money from them, the OC said.

The police official said they identified the victim but she declined to file any case against him.

As Ridoy was accused in a case filed for murder during a mugging, police produced him before a Dhaka Court yesterday where he gave confessional statement under section 164 of CrPC, he added.
