OMS dealer fined for black-marketing coarse flour

A mobile court has fined a dealer Tk 50,000 for black marketing coarse flour meant for open market sale (OMS) in Thakurgaon.

The dealer -- Abul Hossain Bhuiyan (62) -- is a resident of Nichhintapur and is the religious affairs secretary of Awami League's ward 7 unit in Thakurgaon municipality.

Qamrul Hasan Shohag, assistant commissioner (Land) and executive magistrate who led the mobile court, told this correspondent that locals caught the OMS dealer red-handed around 7:30pm yesterday when he took coarse flour to Dulal's grocery shop at Kalibari Bazar in the town for selling, violating the government direction.

On information, the mobile court conducted a drive there and fined the dealer instantly. If he fails to pay the fine, the dealer will have to serve in prison for one month, the mobile court said.

Abul Hossain cleared the fine immediately, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent quoting the AC.

Upazila Controller of Food, Raich Uddin, told this correspondent that the Department of Food has already seized the rice and flour given to him for distribution.

Replying to a query, he said the department is taking steps for the cancellation of his dealership.
