NBR sacks official for embezzling Tk 3.50 crore of tax

An assistant commissioner of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has been terminated for embezzling Tk 3.50 crore of tax money without depositing it to the government treasury.

The NBR took the action after the allegation brought against assistant commissioner (tax) Md Mejbahuddin Ahmed was proven, said an order by the NBR today.

In the order, the NBR said Mejbahuddin misappropriated Tk 35,026,929 after collecting the money from taxpayers while he was performing service in different tax circles under Khuna region.

The NBR later suspended him for his crime and served a show cause notice asking why he should not be sacked from the job but he did not provide any satisfactory answer.
