Man detained for sexually assaulting children in Lalmonirhat

Police held a man on charges of sexually assaulting three children in Lalmonirhat yesterday.

The detainee, Ansar Ali (46), is a shopkeeper in Shahitari area of Lalmonirhat municipality, reports our local correspondent quoting Shaha Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.

Ansar allegedly offered the three girls, aged 8-10, ice cream and took them to his house in absence of his wife, the OC said.

"As the culprit was in the act, one of the victims managed to escape, and ran out of the house crying for help," the OC said, adding that locals then rescued the other children and informed police.

Police detained the accused from his house after arriving at the spot.

A case was being filed in this connection.
