A man was brutally killed by unidentified assailants in Bogura's Sadar upazila early today.

The deceased was identified as Shafiul Islam Piplu (35), a resident of the Madidali Uttar Para of the upazila and used to work at a grocery store in Raza Bazar area of the town, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting Selim Reza, officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station.

The incident took place around 12:00am at Matidali area when Shafiul was returning home after closing the store, the OC said.

The assailants hacked him in the face and chest and gouged his eyes out before leaving the body by the road near his home, the police official said, adding that the attackers did not take his phone, wallet, or other belongings.

"We are trying to identify those involved in the murder," the OC also said.

Victim's family members suspected that it was a pre-planned murder, and alleged that Shafiul had previous enmity with his step-siblings.
