Jubo league leader in Pirojpur injured in ‘political’ attack

A local Jubo League leader was injured in an attack allegedly by supporters of his rival in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur this evening.

Md Abu Hanif, president of Mathbaria upazila unit Jubo League, is undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barishal, said Azizul Haque Selim Matabbar, general secretary of Mathbaria upazila unit Awami League.

AJ Md Masuduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Mathbaria Police Station, said Abu Hanif came under attack due to a political conflict.

The attack came a day after Hanif uploaded a photo of Md Idris, who was injured in an attack by the same men yesterday, on his Facebook account and protested the attack, reports our Pirojpur correspondent.

Azizul Haque further said a group of 20-25 people attacked Hanif and some other party leaders with sharp weapons in front of the Jubo League office in the upazila yesterday evening.

He was first taken to local hospital and later shifted to the SBMCH.

Azizul Haque claimed that the followers of Mathbaria upazila unit AL president Rafiuddin Ahmed Ferdous carried out the attack on Abu Hanif.

However, this correspondent could not reach Rafiuddin for comment despite repeated calls.
