‘Drug smugglers’ attack police, 5 injured in Chuadanga

Five policemen have been injured in an attack carried out by drug smugglers at Darshana in Chuadanga, police said today.

Police arrested three drug smugglers in connection with the attack that happened last night, Darshana Police Station Officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman told our Kushtia correspondent today.

Acting on a tip-off, a police patrol team arrested yaba trader Abdul Hakim (28) during a raid on the grounds of a graveyard at Ishwarchandrapur village, the OC said.

At that time, Hakim's associates attacked policemen, leaving Sub-inspector Mahmudul Haque, assistant sub-inspectors Mohammad Shaheen, Mamun Ali, Idris Ali and another policeman Sohel Rana injured.

During the incident, Hakim who was handcuffed, fled, the OC said.

Later, police conducted a drive and arrested three drug traders including Hakim. The two others arrestee are Hashem Ali (52) and his son Khairul Islam (32), of Ishwarchandrapur village.

According to OC Mahbubur, 26 bottles of phensidyl were seized during the incident and the injured policemen are receiving treatment at Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex.
