ASI killed, constable injured after being run over by microbus in Ctg

An assistant sub inspector (ASI) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) was killed and a constable was injured today after a microbus carrying liquor rammed into them in the port city's Chandgaon area when they were on-duty early this morning.

The deceased was identified as ASI Kazi Md Salauddin from Laxmipur, and the injured is Constable Masud, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

Police seized the microbus which was abandoned with 730 litres of homemade liquor. No one has been arrested in this connection, yet.

Inspector (Investigation) Rajesh Barua of Chandgaon Police Station told The Daily Star "ASI Salauddin was on night duty with a team of police at Mowlovipukur Par area and C&B area.

"He had information that a microbus was coming from the hill tracts carrying homemade liquor and was heading for Chattogram city. Based on the information, ASI Salauddin had installed a check-post at Meherazkhan Ghata area around 4:00 in the morning."

"When Salauddin signaled the black microbus to stop, it slowed down. After he stood in front of the microbus and asked the driver to come out the microbus rammed Salauddin and constable Masum leaving them critically injured and fled the scene."

"Salauddin was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the duty doctors declared him dead," said Rajesh.

Special drive is going on to arrest the culprit. The body was sent to CMCH morgue for an autopsy, said Rajesh.
