7 female Jamaat activists among 8 held from secret meeting in Meherpur

Police have arrested eight Jamaat-e-Islam activists from a secret meeting in Meherpur today. Of them, seven were female.

They were arrested while they were holding a secret meeting at the house of Jamaat's Rokon member Moniruzzaman (62) in front of Markaz Mosque in Meherpur municipality town this noon, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting Shah Dara Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station.

Faisal Ahmed, additional superintendent of police (circle) said the arrest was made in a drive.

He said the arrestees work to recruit members at the organisation.

Sensing presence of the police, few fled the scene, he said. The arrestees were taken to Meherpur Sadar Police Station for questioning. 

The accused will be produced before a court tomorrow, he said.
