12-year-old killed by suspected burglars in Dhaka’s Wari, 1 held

A 12-year old boy was killed by suspected burglars in a house in Dhaka's Wari last night.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hasan, who used to live at his uncle's flat in a six-storey building.

Police and family members suspected that the murder was committed by burglars as gold ornaments and cash were looted from the house.

The boy was alone when some youths entered the house in to burgle. They might have killed the boy and looted the valuables, sub-inspector Asaduzzaman of Wari Police Station said, quoting inhabitants of the building.

Police so far detained a man, aged around 24, but did not disclose his identity immediately.

"We are trying to arrest others," the SI said.

Zaman Bhuiyan, uncle of the victim, said his wife Ayesha went to the market last evening while he and his son Azizul Islam were outside during the incident.

After returning home around 9:30pm, Azizul saw the flat locked and was waiting there for his mother. After Ayesha arrived there, they broke open the door and found Hasan lying in a pool of blood, he said.

Zaman said gold ornaments and Tk 85,000 in cash were stolen.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital this afternoon for autopsy.
