Jubo League leader accused in murder case dies at Pirojpur jail

A Jubo League leader who is an accused in a murder case died in Pirojpur district jail today. 

The deceased, Animesh Halder (35) of Charani Pattashi village in Indurkani upazila, was Jubo League president of ward no 8 in Pattashi union.

Md Shamim Iqbal, superintendent of Pirojpur district jail, said Animesh had been in jail since July last year in connection with a murder case. 

"Suddenly this noon, he felt pain in his chest and we immediately took him to Pirojpur District Hospital, where a doctor on duty declared him dead around 12:30pm," Shamim Iqbal said. 

Istiak Ahmed, resident medical officer of Pirojpur District Hospital, said Animesh was brought dead to the hospital.

 

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.

Animesh was arrested in July last year in connection with a case filed over the death of Golapi Rani Halder (65), wife of retired school teacher Madhu Sudhan Halder of Charani Pattashi village in the upazila. 

The body of the woman was recovered from her house on July 27 last year. On July 30, the woman's husband filed a murder case with Indurkani Police Station accusing Animesh and Al Amin Babu (22), organising secretary of the ward unit Jubo League and also son of local union parishad member (reserved seat) Taslima Akter. 

The investigation officer of the case pressed charges before a court accusing Animesh and Al Amin on December 30 last year, said Humayun Kabir, officer in charge of Indurkani Police Station.

As per the charge sheet, the accused murdered the woman after entering the house to loot money and other valuables.
