Majority of Covid-19 deaths in a day still in Dhaka

35 dead, 2,635 infected, 521 recover in 24 hours

Thirty-five people have died with coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

The death toll now stands at 846 and the death rate at 1.34 percent, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during a briefing.

Two thousand six hundred and thirty-five people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of infected has reached 63,026.

A total of 12,486 samples were tested in 50 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Meanwhile, 521 Covid-19 patients have recovered since yesterday, taking the total number of recoveries to 13,325 and the recovery rate to 21.14 percent, the DGHS official added.

A total of 314 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.

Among the deceased, 28 were male and seven female, she said adding that 20 were from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, two from Sylhet, three from Rajshahi and the other two were from Barishal division.

Of them, two were between 11-20 years old, three between 21-30, two between 31-40, three within 41-50, 10 within 51-60, five between 61-70, nine were 71-80 and another was 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
