Youth locked in container for hours

The Mongla port authorities last night rescued a youth who was locked inside a container in a critical condition.
The youth was identified as Abu Taher, 26, who hailed from Chittagong city’s Anowara area.
Security Officer Zahirul Islam of Mongla Port told our Bagerhat correspondent that port labours heard sounds from inside a container while unloading after a ship from Chittagong arrived at the port last night.
“On information, the youth was rescued by breaking the lock of the container. He was later admitted to Port Hospital immediately,” the security officer said.
Zahirul also quoted Abu Taher as saying he is a truck helper and his driver locked him inside the container following altercations over a trivial issue.
Sub-Inspector Manjur Elahi of Mongla Police Station told The Daily Star that police have visited the victim at the hospital, adding that Taher will be questioned when he comes round.
