Youth killed as villagers clash with cops

A youth was killed in a clash between villagers and policemen when the latter went to Rajapur area in Bhola Sadar upazila to detain a local Chhatra Dal leader today.

The deceased was identified as Noman, 30, of Janata Bazar village, Sub-Inspector Nizam Sikdar of Bhola Sadar Police Station told our Jhalakathi correspondent.

The clash ensued when police went to the village around 8:00pm and detained Mizanur Rahman, Janata Bazar union unit president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, in connection with a polls violence case.

Following the detention, the villagers attacked the law enforcers and besieged a makeshift police outpost, the police official said.

At one point, the law enforcers were forced to fire blank shot to bring the situation under control, he added.

“Noman died on the spot during the clash,” he said adding that police were not confirmed whether Noman was killed in police firing or not.
