Youth killed in Jessore ‘gunfight’

A young man was reportedly killed in a gunfight between two terrorist groups at Panchbaria in Sadar upazila of Jessore early Thursday.

Identity of the deceased could not be confirmed.

Md Ilius Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotowali Police Station, said on information that a gunfight ensued between two criminal groups; a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:00am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the members of both the groups fled away.

Later, police rescued the body of the youth, aged about 30, with bullet injuries at the head.

The injured was taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered a one-shooter gun, one round of bullet and a bullet shell from the spot.
