A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a girl, spreading a video footage and image on the internet in Rangpur.

Arrestee Nur Mohmmad, a first year honours student of Rangpur Carmichael College, was arrested yesterday evening, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.

Police made the arrest following a case filed by the victim against the Nur, son of Shafiar Rahman in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari.

A team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Saleh Imran conducted a raid at Lalbagh College Para area in Rangpur city and detained him, said Mojid Ali, superintendent of police (SP) of PBI in Rangpur.

Nur allegedly developed a love affair with the victim in 2015 and took her to a residential hotel on April 14 the same year, where he “raped” the girl, the SP said at a press briefing today.

“He [Nur] filmed the entire incident and threatened her of spreading the clip to the internet in a bid to hush her up,” the police official said, adding that Nur continued blackmailing her with the images.

Police, however, recovered a pen drive and memory chips in which the video clips were stored.

SP Mojid said Nur admitted to his involvement with the incident on primary interrogation.

He was sent to jail after police produced him before a Rangpur court this afternoon.
