Youth held in rape case

Police yesterday arrested a youth on charge of raping an indigenous girl in Birganj upazila.

The arrestee, Ashiq Roy, 22, son of Atul Chandra Roy of Uttar Jagdal village in the upazila, was sent  to the district jail through a court, said Shakila Parvin, officer-in-charge of Birganj Police station.

The victim, an 18-year-old indigenous girl of Kaharol upazila, reached Jagdal village on the way to her relatives' house in Birganj at around 8:00pm when Ashiq forcibly took her to a bush and allegedly raped her, said Naren Chandra Roy, sub-inspector of Birganj Police Station.

The next day, a case was filed accusing Ashiq.
