Youth held on charge of raping challenged girl

A youth was arrested yesterday from Sadar upazila on charge of raping a physically challenged girl in March. 

The arrestee is Jabad Sheikh, 22, son of Abdur Rahim Sheikh of Godadhorda village in the upazila.

“On March 2, Jabad stopped the 17-year-old physically challenged girl while she was returning home from another house in the village and forcibly took her to the bank of a pond, where he raped her. The victim was admitted to Faridpur General Hospital last Tuesday after being ill for the last few days. She was later shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The on-duty doctor there said she has been pregnant for two months. The victim's mother filed a rape case against Jabad with Sadar Police Station on Wednesday night,” said Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge AFM Nasim, quoting the victim's family members.

“We arrested Jabad from Godadhorda village under Aliabad union in Sadar upazila,” the OC added.

Faridpur Medical College Hospital Principal SM Khobirul Islam said the victim is two months pregnant and is under treatment at the hospital.
