Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members today recovered 12.10 lakh pieces of yaba tablets, worth Tk 36.30 crore, in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Acting on a tip-off, BGB-2 Battalion members conducted a drive at betel leaf orchard in Kochubunia area of Teknaf and recovered the contraband pills around 10:00am, Lt Col Abu Jar Al Zahid, commanding officer of BGB-2 told The Daily Star.

This is believed to be the highest-ever haul of the contraband pills by BGB, he said.

The smugglers managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.

The BGB officer said that human traffickers might be involved in the yaba smuggling through the sea instead of river to directly reach the Chittagong port.
