Writ seeks judicial probe into Inu’s allegation against MPs

A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directives on the government for holding a judicial enquiry into allegation against the parliament members of misappropriating money from Test Relief (TR) and Food for Work (Kabikha) programmes.

The move came a day after Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu made the allegation on Sunday against the lawmakers of misappropriating half of the money allocated for TR and Kabikha programmes.

SC lawyer Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition praying to the court to direct the authorities concerned to distribute the money of TR and Kabikha programmes among poor people through districts’ local representatives instead of the lawmakers.

In the petition, Akond urged the HC to issue rule upon the authorities concerned to explain why the lawmakers are given responsibilities to distribute the money of the programmes.

He told The Daily Star that duties of the MPs is to formulate law but the responsibilities given to them for distributing money among the poor people under the project is against the constitution.

The HC is likely to hold hearing on the petition tomorrow.
