A writ petition was filed with the High Court today challenging the legality of lawmaker Sahara Khatun’s presidency post at Dhaka Women’s College in Uttara.

A former member of the college’s governing body Bahauddin Ahmed Babul moved the petition seeking a stay order from the High Court on the appointment of Sahara Khatun.

Earlier on June 1, the High Court ruled against lawmakers being selected as governing body president of any private school or college.

Despite such existing order, the National university authorities on September 6 appointed lawmaker Sahara Khatun as president of the Dhaka Women’s College.

The petitioner alleged the school authorities defied the High Court order.

Petitioner’s lawyer Eunus Ali Akond told reporters that the High Court may hold hearing on the petition tomorrow.
