Worker dies in Sylhet stone quarry

A worker died in an illegal stone quarry in Sylhet’s Companyganj upazila today.

The victim was climbing the cliff of the quarry carrying stones and died after he slipped off the cliff in Kalairag area this afternoon, said Saifur Rahman Khan, officer-in-charge of Companyganj Police Station.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College for autopsy, the OC told our Sylhet correspondent.

As much as 32 workers were killed during stone extraction in five upazilas of Sylhet in 2017, while 7 died in first 10 days of January 2018.
