Bangladesh court sends woman to jail for 'blasphemy'

A court here yesterday sent a young woman to jail for her alleged derogatory comment on Allah and demeaning the holy Quran in Kumarkhali upazila of the district.

The accused is Tanushka Ima, 20, daughter of Rased Rana of Elongi area of the upazila, and wife of Tanveer Ahmed staying in USA.

Police said Tanushka posted a status on her Facebook ID, demeaning the holy book several days ago, which angered local people.

On information, the law enforcers picked up the woman from her home, said Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali Police Station.

She was later produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent her to jail, said the OC.
