Woman raped

Abducted Pirojpur college girl rescued in Jessore

A housewife was raped allegedly by a neighbouring youth and his cohorts in Pirojpur Sadar upazila on Sunday.

The victim's husband filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Sadar Police Station yesterday, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Jasim Uddin.

Police sent the 19-year-old victim to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital for medical test later on the day, the SI said.

The victim's husband, a resident of Pashchim Chalitakhali village in the upazila, said the couple had a quarrel over family feud around 9:30pm on Sunday.

At one stage, his wife came out of the house and started for her parents' house in Kachua upazila of Bagerhat.

On her way, one of her neighbouring youths Hasib Mollah, 25, son of Jafar Mollah, with the help of Enayet Sikder and Zia Sardar waylaid the woman and forcibly took her to a nearby fruit orchard where they raped her.

After returning home next morning, she disclosed the matter to her husband.

Meanwhile, police on Monday night rescued a college girl from Keshabpur upazila of Jessore, a week after her abduction from Pirojpur's Nesarabad upazila on August 1.

Police detained alleged kidnapper Sumon Roy, 28, son of Satindranath Roy of Tetla village in neighbouring Banaripara upazila of Barisal.

Police said Sumon, father of two children, picked up the girl, an HSC first-year student, while she was returning home from college on August 1 and took her to Jessore.

Sub-Inspector Md Shahjahan Ali of Nesarabad Police Station, also investigation officer of the case, said police sent the girl to a hospital for medical test yesterday and produced the arrestee before a court that sent him to jail after rejecting his bail prayer.
