Ward declared drug-free

A ward of Akkelpur municipality in Joypurhat district was declared free from drugs yesterday as the drug peddlers agreed not to continue the unethical business anymore in their respective area. Besides, Akkelpur police took initiatives to rehabilitate 12 drug peddlers in ward No 1 under the municipality. As the chief guest, Assistant Superintendent of Police Biman Chandra Karmaker came up with the announcement at a programme organised by local police department on Amuttra Mosque premises in the area. Kamruzzaman Kamal, chairman of Akkelpur Upazila Parishad, and Asraful Islam, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station, among others, were present at the programme.
