War crimes: Verdict on 5 Kishoreganj men any day
International Crimes Tribunal-1 will deliver verdict any day in a case filed against five Kishoreganj men for allegedly committing war crimes in 1971.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Anwarul Haque today kept the case waiting after the prosecution and defense counsels completed their argument in the case.
The five are: Gazi Abdul Mannan, 88, alleged commander of a Razakar camp, Nasiruddin Ahmed, 62, his brother Shamsuddin Ahmed, 60, Hafiz Uddin, 66, and Azharul Islam, 60, all alleged Razakar members from Kishoreganj's Karimganj.
After wrapping up their submission the prosecution sought capital punishment for the accused. The defense counsels prayed for acquittal of their client.
The five are facing seven charges including those of mass killing, murder, confinement, torture, arson and looting. Among them, only Shamsuddin is now in jail while the rest are on the run.
The specialised war crimes tribunal framed charges against the seven on October 12, 2015.
