War crimes evidence found against 8 suspects

The investigators of International Crimes Tribunal today said they found evidence of war crimes against eight fugitives accused in two war crimes cases.

Abu Saleh Md Abdul Aziz Mia, 65, former Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker, is among the six persons are accused in case. The others are: Ruhul Amin alias Manju, 61, Abdul Latif, 61, Muslim Md Ali, 59, Najmul Huda, 60, and Abdur Rahim Mia, 62.

They are all from Gaibandha district involved in war crimes during the country’s LIberation War in 1971, said Abdul Hannan Khan, coordinator of the investigation agency.

“The six war crimes accused are currently involved with Jamaat politics,” the investigator said.

Two others accused are Liakot Ali, 61, former president of Lakhai upazila Awami League of Habiganj, and Aminul Islam alias Rajab Ali, 62, of Ostogram area in Kishoreganj.

Co-coordinator Sanaul Haque told reporters at Dhanmondi, “We found evidence of genocide, murder, arson, looting and torture against the eight. All the accused are now fugitives.”
