Village doc arrested on rape charge

Police arrested a village doctor at Gazipur village under Benapole Port Police Station in Jessore district on Wednesday on charge of violating a young girl.

The arrestee is Shaymol Sing, 37, son of Krishno Mahon Sing of Boraghup Bazar area in Kutubdia upazila of Cox's Bazar district, reports our Benapole correspondent.

Quoting the victim, Assistant Superintendent of Police Shafin Mahmud said Shaymol called the girl over mobile phone with a promise of getting her a job and confined her to the house of one Mahe Alam at Gazipur village. He later raped her.

On information, police rushed to the spot at night and rescued the girl. They also arrested the village doctor from the spot.

The victim filed a case with the police station against Shaymol in this connection, said the ASP.

In Bogra, the law enforcers arrested a youth at Koigari village in Nandigram upazila of the district the same day on charge of attempting to rape a four-year-old girl.

The arrestee is Moazzem Hossain, 18, son of Abdul Motin of the village, reports our correspondent.

Police said when the girl was playing with some other kids at the house of the accused, he took her to the room tactfully and tried to rape her.

At one stage, the victim escaped the situation and informed her mother about the matter.

Locals later caught the youth and handed him over to police.

A case was filed with Nandigra Police Station in this connection, said ASP Gaziur Rahman.
