Users to know number of SIMs registered against their NIDs: Tarana

State Minister for Telecommunication Tarana Halim today said mobile phone users will be able to know the exact number of SIM cards registered with their national identification number (NID) from July 7.

In a press conference at her secretariat office, Tarana said mobile phone operators will send SMS to their customers in this regard.

“The customers can easily find out how many SIM is registered against his/her NID. And if found any unwanted SIM, they can immediately deactivate those numbers,” said Tarana.

The press conference was organised after a recent incident of Airtel distributors’ arrest.

She also said if any operator’s SIM found unregistered or registered with falls information, it will have to pay a fine of US$ 50 for each SIM card.”

Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood and its Vice Chairman Ahsan Habib Khan, among others, were present.
