Technical Glitches

Urea production stopped for two weeks

Urea production at Jamauna Fertiliser Company Ltd (JFCL) at Tarakandi in Sarishabari upazila under the district got suspended for two weeks due to technical glitches on Saturday evening.

Production of the fertiliser stopped as a leakage was found in the boiler of the factory's utility plant and primary reformer tube of the ammonia plant went inoperative around 5:30pm, said AKM Anwar Haque, additional chief of JFCL's utility plant.

It will take 15 days to resume production as the time will be needed to complete necessary repair work, he said.

JFCL is the country's largest urea factory and has a daily capacity to produce 1700 tonnes of fertiliser, JFCL sources said, adding that it has a target to produce four lakh tonnes of the fertiliser from June 30, 2016 to June 30, 2017.

"The factory produced two lakh tonnes of urea till January 14. If the production is disturbed due to technical glitches, it may not fulfil its target in the current fiscal year,” said Mahbuba Sultana, general manager (Operation).
