Upazila chairman held in Pirojpur

Police arrested Nazirpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Nazrul Islam Khan at the upazila headquarters yesterday morning.

Nazrul, also vice-chairman of the district unit of BNP, was shown arrested in the cases for vandalising vehicles in the upazila in January this year

Police filed two cases, accusing a good number of BNP-Jamaat men of vandalising passenger buses and other vehicles during BNP-led 20-party alliance's blockade in January, said Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nazirpur Police Station.

Nazrul was later produced in a court that sent him to jail, court sources said.

Upazila parishad Vice-ChairmanIn Mohammad Ali Sikder was also arrested on March 18 in connection with the cases.

Our Bogra correspondent adds: The chairman of Raynagar Union Parishad under Shibganj upazila was yesterday suspended.

The local government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a letter, suspending chairman Md Feroz Ahmed Rizu, 42, as he was charge-sheeted in arms and murder cases recently.

Contacted, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (acting) Razia Sultana said she received the letter through the deputy commissioner's office yesterday morning and sent it to the UP chairman concerned at noon.

Farhad Hossain Shiplu, 35, son of late Habibur Rahman of Malotinagar in Bogra town, was murdered allegedly by Feroz and his accomplices on May 22, 2014. Police later recovered the firearms used in the killing.

The two cases were filed with Shibganj Policev Station on the day, accusing Feroz and his accomplices. Feroz was arrested from his village home at Raynagar the following day.
