Narail UP chairman shot dead in Khulna

Unidentified miscreants gunned down a Union Parishad (UP) chairman in Dighalia upazila of Khulna early today.

Deceased Nahidul Hossain Mollah, 48, was the chairman of Hamidpur union parishad in Kalia upazila of Narail, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shamsher Ali.

He was shot around 4:00am at his residence in Gazirhat area of Dighalia, police said.

Critically injured, Mollah was whisked off to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries, the OC added.

Poly Khanam, wife of the UP chairman, said, “My husband was sleeping in a room of our two-storey building. I heard sounds of gunfire early in the morning.”

“I rushed to his room and found him lying in the pool of blood,” she said.

Primarily police suspect miscreants shot him through the window, the OC said.

Police have cordoned off the area following the incident.
