Two 'robbers' beaten dead in Savar, B'baria

Villagers beat two unidentified men to death suspecting them of robbers in Savar and Brahmanbaria yesterday.

An alleged robber aged about 30 was beaten to death by a mob in Nolam area of Savar on the outskirts of the capital early yesterday.

Quoting locals, police said five to six masked robbers entered a house owned by one Siddikur Rahman in Nolam area around 3:30am. Sensing the robbers' presence, the residents raised a hue and cry for help. Locals came forward and caught one of the robbers after a chase. Later, they gave him a good beating, leaving him dead on the spot.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Awal said they were trying to find out the identity of the robber and arrest his accomplices.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, another suspected robber was killed after a good beating by the villagers in Mulgram union under Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria early yesterday.

Identity of the robber aged around 35 could not be known immediately.

Witnesses said a gang of 10 to 12 robbers tried to loot valuables from passengers after blocking a CNG-run-auto-rickshaw in Raitola area of Tinlakhpeer-Bitghar regional road.

 Villagers caught one of the robbers while they were trying flee after the passengers raised hue and cry seeking help.

The villagers beat him to death on the spot.
