Two die as electric poles fall on them

An electricity worker died and two others injured in Sherpur as electric poles fell on them yesterday.

The deceased was Md Abus Salam, 35, son of Khoka Mia from Saghata village in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha. The injured are Md Unus Ali, 16, and Anisul Islam, 28, of the upazila.   

Md Abdur Rakib, member of Jhinaigati Sadar Union Parishad, said the accident happened while they were carrying the poles beside the Moharashi river in Jhinaigati.

The pole-laden van hit them as a portion of the riverbed subsided due to the weight of the van, while they were going to set up the poles in Dighipar village.

They sustained injuries and were taken to Jhinaigati Health Complex and later shifted to district Sadar hospital. Salam died during treatment.
