Train derails in B’baria

Four compartments, including the engine, of a Dhaka-bound intercity train derailed near Brahmanbaria Railway Station early yesterday.

The rail communication between Dhaka and the eastern zone of the country was disrupted for ten hours following the derailment. No casualty was reported.

The Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita Express train from Chittagong derailed at Poniout rail crossing around 4:00am, said Md Mainul Hoque, assistant station master of Brahmanbaria Railway Station.

Rail links of the eastern districts, including Chittagong, Sylhet, Noakhali and Chandpur routes with the capital, were restored through an alternative line, he added.

A new engine was connected to the train before leaving for Dhaka, he said.

The reason behind the derailment could not be known immediately, he said, adding that a four-member committee was formed to probe the accident.
