Train, covered van collision kills 1 in Dinajpur
Rail communication of Dinajpur with Dhaka and Khulna cut off for 5hrs
A man was killed and another injured critically when a covered van collided with a running freight train at a level crossing in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur early today.
The deceased was identified as Md Biplob Hossain.
Following the accident, train services of Dinajpur with Dhaka and Khulna remained suspended for five hours till 10:30am, reports our district correspondent.
The incident took place at the level crossing near Barapukuria Coal Mining Company ltd (BCMCL) at around 5:30am, Khokon Chandra Das, an officer of Parbatipur Government Railway Police, told the correspondent.
As the level crossing at Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL) was left unguarded, a freight train hit the covered van when the van got on the track, leaving its helper dead on the spot and the driver badly hurt.
Villagers rescued the injured driver and rushed him to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex. Doctors of Phulbari upazila Health Complex referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
