Ex-national cricketer Shahadat Hossain was denied bail and sent to jail today after completion of a three-day remand over torturing an 11-year-old.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Kamrul Islam knocked down his plea after the probe officer bid for Shahadat’s confinement throughout the investigation.

The suspended cricketer was implicated in a lawsuit filed by his domestic help Mahfuza Akhter Happy on September 6. Shahadat’s wife is also in prison now.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suspended Shahadat a week after the lawsuit.

Shahadat surrendered before court on October 5 and landed in jail. On October 8, he was placed in three-day remand under police custody.

Today, after completion of the remand, Shahadat moved a bail plea. Investigating officer of the case Shafiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Mirpur Model Police Station, pleaded for Shahadat’s captivity until probe is complete.
