Torturer husband surrenders before Sylhet court

The man who cut off his wife's tongue and slashed the tendon of her left leg for Tk 5 lakh dowry in Sylhet on December 15 surrendered before a Sylhet court today.

Belal Ahmed, the main accused of the case filed over torturing his wife, Suma Begum, surrendered before Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 around 10:00am.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rahman Siddiqui sent him to jail, our local correspondent reports quoting Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station.

OC Hossain said that they will seek Belal’s remand for 10 days. They are likely to file the remand prayer later in the day.

According to the case filed with local police station, Belal, and his family members tortured Suma, 26, for dowry since their marriage in 2008.

Six of the alleged torturers were made accused in the case.
