Sramik League leader among 2 killed in Sylhet clash

Two people, including a Sramik League leader, were killed in a clash between two rival groups in Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet this morning.

The deceased were identified as Mashu Mia, 50, senior vice president of Sylhet Sadar upazila unit Sramik League, and Babul Mia, 30, our local correspondent reports.

The clash ensued between the people of two villages under Boroikandi union this morning following altercation between Gaos Mia, president of the union Awami League unit, and Abdul Latif Mia, union parishad chairman of Companyganj, police said.

At one stage of the clash, the duo died on spot, said Khairul Fazal, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station.

The clash took place beside the residence of Mashu Mia, he also said.

Last night, Gaos and Latif engaged in an argument over seniority, the OC added.

Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital’s Emergency Room Doctor Abdul Mannan said that both bodies were riddled with bullet holes.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
