Terming Transparency International Bangladesh Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman’s remarks on Jatiya Sangsad ‘audacious’, Deputy Speaker Advocate Md Fazle Rabbi Miah today suggested that TIB’s source of funds be investigated.
Talking to reporters in Lalpur Upazila Parishad premises in Natore, he said: “Terming the parliament a puppet theatre is not only audacious but also exaggerated and biased.”
Iftekharuzzaman made the comment while unveiling a parliament watch report on October 25.
TIB unveiled the report based on the parliament's second to sixth session from June 2014 to July this year. The current parliament has not been able to function effectively, said the anti-graft watchdog.
Terming the main opposition Jatiya Party as “B-team of the government”, the study said party failed to play its due role in the parliament.
Talking on this today, Deputy Speaker Rabbi said, “TIB itself dances to the tune of those who direct such puppet shows.”
“We need to do check the source of TIB’s funding and how the organisation is run.”
Abul Kalam and Abdul Quddus, lawmakers from Natore-1and 4 constituencies, and local leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League were present at the discussion about Sheikh Hasina’s role on the government’s development programmes.
