Three housewives commit suicide over family feud

Wife of a Bahrain expatriate allegedly committed suicide in Faridpur on Friday while two others took their own lives over family feud in Dinajpur and Mymensingh on Saturday.

Our Faridpur correspondent reported that: A housewife allegedly committed suicide at KM Dangi village in Faridpur's Char Bhadrasan upazila on Friday.

The deceased, Suborna Islam, 22, was wife of Bahrain expatriate Shamim Pramanik, 27, of Alamnagar village in Sadar upazila.

Locals said Shamim married Suborna over mobile phone from Bahrain three years ago and did not return home since then.

Suborna's sister-in-law Beauty Akter said “Shamim used to talk with Suborna over phone daily. He phoned me around 5:00pm on Friday, requesting to find Suborna, who was alone at home. So I rushed there and found Suborna hanging from the ceiling.” Neighbours rushed her to Char Bhadrasan Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared her dead, she said. 

Victim's father Sheikh Abdul Khalek said, “Suborna often quarrelled with Shamim over phone, but I don't know why. Once, Shamim asked me to arrange the couple's divorce.”

Meanwhile, a mother of two children allegedly committed suicide over family dispute in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur.

The victim, Rozina Begum, 40, was wife of Golzar Hossain of Mohipur village.

Locals said Rozina took pesticide following an altercation with her husband on Friday night and died on her way to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex, reports our correspondent.

Away in Mymensingh, a housewife allegedly committed suicide in Trishal upazila on early Saturday, reports our correspondent.

The victim, Majida Begum, 30, was wife of Sabuj Mia of Nalchhira village.

Quoting locals, police said Sabuj, an unemployed man, married Majida around nine years ago.

Majida allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree near her house after the couple had an altercation over family affairs on Saturday night.
