Three cops injured as villagers clash

Three policemen were injured while trying to stop a clash over land between two groups in Jaldhaka upazila yesterday.

Police arrested seven people, including two women, of both groups.

Locals said Sandha Rani, 50, wife of late Rabindranath Roy of Pashchim Balagram village, had a dispute with Keshi Mohon, 35, son of Dhormo Narayan, over ownership of 30 decimals of land.

Sandha filed a case with a Nilphamnari court regarding the matter three years ago. The court gave ruling in favour of Sandha 15 days ago.

Yesterday, Sandha went with her relatives and labourers to harvest paddy from the land, which was under Keshi's possession.

Keshi's group attacked them, triggering a clash that lasted for two hours.

Three injured policemen are constables Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 32, and Suhrawardi, 28, and Sub-Inspector Aslam Ali, 27.

They were admitted to Jaldhaka Upazila Health Complex. Suhrawardi was later taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
