Thief suspect beaten dead

A youth, suspected of being a thief, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari around 3:30am yesterday.

The deceased was Mizarul Sheikh, 26, son of Khalak Sheikh of Moshala Murtidanga village.

“Locals caught Mizarul red-handed when he entered a house in Moishala Dakkhinpar village for stealing. They beat him up. Later, he was taken to Pangsha Upazila Health Complex where an on-duty doctor declared him dead,” Pangsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mofazzal Hossain said, quoting locals.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Rajbari General Hospital morgue for autopsy yesterday morning, the OC said.

Police later arrested the owner of the house and his neighbour in connection with the incident, the OC added.
