Teenager dies in Munshiganj clash

A teenage boy was shot dead and two others were injured in a clash between supporters of an elected councillor and a defeated candidate of Munshiganj municipality elections last night.

Deceased Md Jony, 17, a worker at a furniture shop, suffered bullet injuries in his abdomen during the clash, our Munshiganj correspondent reports quoting Dr Shaibal Kumar Bosak of Munshiganj General Hospital.

The clash broke out between the supporters of Zakir Hossain and Wahiduzzaman, an elected councillor of ward No.9 of the municipality and a defeated candidate respectively, at Panchghariakandi in the town around 11:30pm yesterday, said Superintendent of Police Biplob Bijoy Talukder.

Later, police arrested a man named Md Opu, 40, along with three pistols, four magazines and 22 bullets.

The injured -- Manik Sarker, 30, and Kalu Bepari, 31 -- are undergoing treatment Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Zakir Hossain was elected councillor in the municipality polls held on December 30, 2015.
