Teen ‘gang-raped’ in Narayanganj running truck: Cops
Driver held, drive on to arrest helper, cops say
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a running truck in Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj last night, police said.
The victim has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for medical test, our local correspondent reports quoting police.
Meanwhile, police were able to arrest the driver of the truck, Mehedi Hasan, from in front of a local market in the area tonight, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Abu Bakar, sub-inspector (SI) of Siddhirganj Police Station.
The arrestee confessed of raping the girl in a primary interrogation, the police official said.
Police were conducting a drive to arrest the helper of the vehicle, the SI said.
Hailing from Gazipur, she left her home following an altercation with her mother yesterday around 4:00pm, said Abu Bakar quoting the victim.
As the girl reached Gazipur Chowrasta area around 8:00pm, truck driver Mehedi Hasan and his helper Sohan lured her to get on the truck saying that they would take her to Dhaka, the SI said.
"The duo then raped her multiple times on board on the way to Narayanganj," he said.
Locals rescued the victim after hearing her screams when the truck was stopped in ACI water pump area around 10:00am today, Abu Bakar also said.
On information, police rushed to the spot and seized the truck.
