Tax office to be set up at upazila level: Muhith

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith today told the Jatiya Sangsad that the government has undertaken initiative to set up tax office at the upazila level across the country.

"We have already established tax offices at some upazilas during the present government's tenure," he said while replying to a question from treasury bench member Muhibur Rahman Manik of Sunamganj-5 constituency.

Replying to another question from a treasury bench member Nurunnabi Chowdhury, the minister said the government received a grant of $ 3.50 million from Asian Development Bank (ADB) to ensure supply of renewable energy to rural and remote areas.

"The renewable energy is being supplied under a project titled Public Private Infrastructure Development Facility (PPIDF)-I," Muhith informed the House.

He said the government has already established 3,49,199 solar home system, seven solar irrigation pump and one mini grid having capacity of 141kilowatt with the grant at remote areas excluding the Rural Electrification zone.

Muhith told the House that with the government's programme, around 16 lakh rural people were brought under the solar power facility, adding, "The project ended in 2013, which began in 2009."
