After Bangladesh’s overwhelming success in International Mathematics Olympiad, now another team of teenagers are on the way to compete at the 49th International Physics Olympiad in Portugal.

The Olympiad will be held in Lisbon of Portugal from July 21-29 and the team is scheduled to leave tomorrow for the event, Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Committee said at a press conference in Dhaka today.

Wishing good luck to the participating team, Vice president of the committee and noted educationist Muhammed Zafar Iqbal said: “Physics Olympiads has 40 marks for practical. However, at the school level, students have little experience in practising practical physics. So, they might face problem regarding this.”

Khorshed Ahmed Kabir, president of BdPhOC, also wished good luck for the young team.

Dr Yasmeen Haque, vice president of BdPhOC, emphasised on the participation of women in such Olympiads.

Munir Hasan, general secretary of BdMOC; and Abdul Qayyum, associate editor of Prothom Alo, were also present at the press conference.

Since 2011, the BdPhOC has been organising a festival nationally on physics to select competitors for International Physic Olympiad (IPhO).

The IPhO is an annual competition in physics for secondary school students, aiming at promoting physics and the development of international contacts in physics education.

It involves individual theoretical and experimental competitions in physics
